DRG Frenchay Football Club News

The summer has been a busy time for the Frenchay based club. Over previous years, DRG have struggled and have not been the success of many years ago when the club was a real force in the county league and cup competitions.

Big changes have been made this summer by Chairman, John McArther and son Robert who have been at the club through thick and thin. This season they have chosen to bring in two new first team managers with a view to changing the club’s fortunes, Mark Cozens from Wick Reserves was a player for DRG many years ago and has a strong bond with the club and vast experience at helping clubs improve on and off the pitch as demonstrated by his time as county league Hanham Athletic’s chairman over many years.

Paul Lloyd joins Mark at the helm of the first team with many successful years as manager of teams such as Old Georgians, Avonmouth FC and Cosmos UK FC where Paul won the league twice and was promoted 3 times in as many seasons, as well as reaching the league cup final last season.

Both managers not only bring their own style of management on and off the pitch but also a number of new faces on the pitch. They aim is not only turning around the club’s disappointing form over the previous seasons but actually winning promotion this season and helping the club back into the county league where it belongs.

The reserves are still managed by ex-Soundwell Victoria Player / Manager Joe Power and will be hoping like the first team to be enjoying a much improved season during 2019 / 20 with a number of new recruits added to the squad.
