Frenchay Cricket Club

This month sees the start of the new outdoor season, with a series of Friendly matches set up for the various ‘Senior’ Teams to hone their skills in preparation for the start of their respective League campaigns. As well as the regular four ‘mixed gender’ Saturday sides, new this year are two Women’s ‘Hardball Teams. The more experienced side will be playing in a new ’35 Overs per side’ Competition for Gloucestershire Clubs, which is aimed at the older County level Girls and Women. A side is also being entered in the Bristol/South Gloucestershire Group ‘T/20’ format League, which is directed towards less experienced players including women graduating from the ‘Softball’ format.

Sri Lankan Tour

Recently returned from a 14 day Cricket (and Cultural) Tour to Sri Lanka with Gloucestershire, are three of our older teenagers, Lily Knox, Izzy Patel and Sarah Walsh, who have been at Frenchay since Under 11s. The girls had the opportunity to play matches at two International Grounds where Test matches are regularly played, Galle and Dambulla, amongst the five matches played. What an experience for these girls, who never in their wildest dreams expected such an opportunity to come their way when they were playing ‘Softball Kwik Cricket’ at Frenchay with their young friends 6 or 7 years ago.
